Oh, what’s in a name!?
Kevin (Handsome), Harvey (Army-Warrior), Cook (Someone that prepares food). So what’s in my name? I am a Handsome Army-Warrior that prepares food. However, despite my non-existent narcissistic zeal, I would in this case amend my original statement to this; I am a Handsome Army-Warrior that is a Paid Search Coordinator at Progrexion Marketing and I enjoy eating food.
Since this is my first blog post, I believe that an introduction is in order. My career choice of digital marketing may seem a bit paradoxical for those that know me. I have always been a laggard in technology. For example, I’ve finally upgraded my fancy flip phone to my first smart phone, I downloaded my first app by myself two days ago, and I am currently writing my first non-school required blog. The idea of me wanting to pursue a career in digital marketing may seem unfathomable, but as is the case with many paradoxes – it’s true.
If you are a Cryptanalyst, you’re probably smart enough to decipher that the acronym HAW represents me, the Handsome Army-Warrior, and PS signifies Paid Search – creating HAWPS (“Hops”) my blogging identity. If I were to say, “I have some mad “Hops,” it would only take five seconds of watching me play basketball to realize that I can only jump 6 inches off the ground. Needless to say, the word “Hops” is a paradox for me. Despite this, I still love to play basketball and I am enjoying my career in the field of digital media marketing.
I attended Utah State University and majored in both marketing and music performance. Marketing and Music aligned with many of my skills and talents. Music performance fostered growth in my hard work, detail-orientation, and creativity. Whereas marketing furthered my creativity, analytical skills, and satisfied my desire of understanding human behavior by studying consumers and understanding why they do what they do.
I’ve had several life-altering experiences. I had the opportunity as business student to travel to Asia and participate in a business study abroad to Vietnam, China, and South Korea. I lived in New Zealand for two years and developed my leadership skills, provided service to locals, and learned about their culture. I worked as a marketing/sales intern for the School Improvement Network and as an Administrative Assistant for both Pulley’s Custom Manufacturing and General Communications.
Fortunately, after graduating from Utah State University I was hired by Progrexion Marketing as a Paid Search Coordinator. In this position, I assist the digital marketing team in setting up and managing new campaigns and tests, create new tracking for individual campaigns, assist with campaign performance and ad placements, manage the digital landscape, create reports of key performance indicators, and manage projects of creating new ads, landing pages, etc. My intent for future blog posts is to inform the “Laggards” of Digital Media Marketing of the importance of Paid Search as I relate my personal experiences and share industry best practices.
Outside of work I enjoy playing sports – volleyball, soccer, basketball, and baseball; playing music – the euphonium, piano, and recorder; being outdoors; and reading. Primarily I love spending time with my family. I have been married for almost three years and I have a beautiful one-year-old little girl. We go for runs, travel, play card games, watch movies, play sports, and love being outdoors.
