The last six months at Progrexion remind me of my high school basketball career. During my senior year as a Bountiful Brave, we were the first ever 4A state champions. We were the underdogs and won by 4 points in double overtime – one incredible basketball game. That state championship tournament was one of the greatest times of my life, and during that season of basketball I learned some life lessons that I’ve applied to my role on our Paid Search team.
I’ve recently been reading a book about the Grand Canyon, The Emerald Mile, a story about the fastest trip EVER down the Grand Canyon in a wooden dory. A somewhat rogue operation, when in 1983 in the highest water the hoover dam had ever seen, a few radical and adventurous boatmen launch into the wild Colorado river in the middle of the night to escape national park officers who were patrolling the closed river due to the high and dangerous water. The Grand Canyon is pretty incredible, and experiencing the Colorado River, by boat, is on my life’s bucket list.
I recently bought some shoes online. Since summer is here, I have been looking for some new summer kicks. I searched online for some shoes that I was interested in and I shopped around a few sites looking for the best price. I went with a 20% off coupon on one site, selected my shoes and my checkout was seamless. You’d think as a consumer once you make your purchase online that all you need to do is wait for your product to ship. Not so. Since my purchase, I’ve seen ads for that online retailer EVERYWHERE – following me as I browse the Internet. This phenomenon is called online retargeting.
Last summer I purchased my first home and along with the home came a garden. Before all of my boxes were unpacked, I had purchased and planted a garden. Mid-June is a little late in the year to plant, so I had to go with the mature plant varieties I could find. As my garden grew, I found some of my plants did great; pumpkin, butternut, tomatoes, herbs, onions while other varieties struggled. The broccoli never turned out, the watermelon never grew larger than a golf ball, my cucumbers were bitter and misshaped, and the cilantro flowered. I have since learned that most of what went wrong was due to my over watering, under watering, the heat stress from the summer sun, and my lack of experience/knowledge in gardening.
Hi. Carrie Sorensen here! I am the new Display Manger and have loved the last 4 months I’ve been with Progrexion. I bring with me a somewhat unique background; 2 years at a buying group and marketing company focused in wholesale distribution, just under 2 years at a traditional advertising agency, and 18 months at an interactive and lead generation shop. I am thrilled to be a part of the Progrexion marketing team and learn and contribute to an already great company.
While studying at the University of Utah I became fascinated with human behavior and interaction. That fascination has now translated to the interaction of consumers to a brand. Why do we as consumers do what we do? Why do we buy something when we buy it? What messages do we believe? One step further, how does my interaction online with brands and other people affect the way I view the world around me, brands, and myself? The discovery of answers to questions like these is the basis of what us, as marketers strive to answer.
